March in Ammanford protesting against the closure of Betws Collery December 1992

In the Autumn of 1992 Michael Heseltine, The UK Secretary of State for the Enviroment announced the closure of Betws Collery in Ammanford.

On Saturday 12th December 1992 the community, trade unions and local organisations marched to protest against the closure.

The National Coal Board did close the mine in 1993. The mine opened again as a private concern in in 1994. Betws Collery finally closed in 2003. The site of the old mine is now a housing estate.

Below are photos that I took of the march.
